Where is asbestos found in your home?

Asbestos is found in some vinyl floor tiles and the backing on vinyl sheet flooring and adhesives. Hot water and steam pipes in older houses may be coated with an asbestos material or covered with an asbestos blanket or tape. Oil and coal furnaces and door gaskets may have asbestos insulation. Many homes built before 1980 contain asbestos in old floor tiles, ceiling tiles, roof shingles and flashing, siding, insulation (around boilers, ducts, pipes, sheeting, fireplaces), pipe cement, acoustic ceiling and joint compound used on seams between pieces of sheetrock. Some newer houses may also contain asbestos.

Where is mold found in your home?

Mold will grow in places with a lot of moisture, such as around leaks in roofs, windows, or pipes, or where there has been flooding. Mold grows well on paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles, and wood products. Mold can also grow in dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery.

What is soft demolition?

Soft Demolition typically applies to home remodeling or smaller construction projects, and involves removing materials that don't contribute directly to the building's structure, such as drywall and flooring. Soft demolition includes the removal of flooring, floor coverings, block walls, drywall, hard ceilings, drop ceilings, structural and non-structural walls, asphalt, retaining walls, overhangs, and curbs.

Where is lead found in your home?

Lead is found in the air, soil, dust and paint inside or outside of some homes and other buildings built before 1978. Too much lead exposure can cause serious health problems, but fortunately, lead poisoning can be prevented. Lead can be found in paint, ceramics, pipes, plumbing materials, solders, gasoline, batteries, ammunition and cosmetics.
